With the ending of the Holy month of Ramadan on the horizon, it only makes sense that people would begin to wild out for eid preparations. However, the celebration of this day on the rest of the world pales in comparison to the rambunctious and loud celebration here in Pakistan. In light of that, let’s take a look at 10 eid things that are reserved only for us Pakistanis.
1 – NEW CLOTHES
New clothes, new shoes, new everything. This is what basically transpires every eid. Stores get filled to the brim with customers who want simply the best they can have (at affordable prices of course, because why pay more though?) for themselves and their families. This may lead to more than a few fights breaking out at leading brands. I personally don’t care a lot about new clothes, as I believe most men don’t either. This makes the clothing fiasco extremely difficult for women because guys, let’s face it, they work way to hard all year, they deserve this.
2 – NAMAZ E EID
Eid doesn’t exactly kick off unless namaz e eid us offered. It’s like the proverbial, dude-exculsive fireworks to kick off eid in spectacular fashion. It also allows for some much needed father/son bonding time.
3 – SHEER KHURMA
You can cook a hundred cakes and sweets, but none of them would scream eid quite like sheer khurma does, the thick, velvety, paste like concoction truly signifies that eid is here. *fireworks all around*
4 – HUGS FOR EVERYONE
This is that ‘Awwwwn’ moment in eid, where everyone, from snobby, uptight women to dudes who practically ooze out macho bravado, all give each other…..hugs. On this day, people bring their walls down and actually connect with everyone making the day truly special. (I always prefer hugging thrice, y’know, share the love and blah blah)
5 – EIDI
*Dollar signs and drooling intensifies*
This is the epitome of eid spirit for us Pakistani kids. I mean, who wouldn’t wanna make some cold, hard cash? However, one may think that a large family would rake in more money but……sadly, no one wants to fill your big, fat family with money so….boo hoo.
6 – CONNECTING WITH FAMILY
We all have relatives, but here in Pakistan, there’s always that one relative that you just can’t stay in touch with. Eid changes that. The occasion melts you to the point where you willingly reach out to them and give them the time of day. This, I feel is truly the essence of eid.
7 – MEETING OLD FRIENDS
all those meet-up scenes with the squad and those squad goals pictures to upload on facebook and instagram. All that teasing and having fun that can only happen among the closest of friends. This. Is. Eid.
8 – FOOD, FOOD AND MORE FOOD!
*drooooooll* Mmmmm food! Who doesn’t love good food? I mean, what kind of sick animal would pass up good food? Here in Pakistan, all the women magically evolve into 4-star chefs bringing in a fusion of international meals that make this occasion worthwhile.
9 – THAT ‘I CANT EAT ANYMORE’ FEELING
Now in all honesty, this is the feeling for which I live for. There is no way a true Pakistani is enjoying their eid meal unless they regret it later. (oh myGod! The pain! The pain! Ohh!!) Eat till you can’t eat anymore, then keep eating. That’s the way of the valiant Pakistani.
10 – HAPPINESS
The sheer bliss this day brings is truly the most spectacular thing about it. All those good vibes we get throughout eid. Every time we hug an old relative, receive eid or eat good food, that feeling of butterfly bliss after thirty days of fasting is what this grand day is all about.
