Do Until You Die

An astounding personality, being the road to victory also in the T20 match against Sri Lanka, Anwar Ali is underrated in his cricket career and life outside the pitch. As Anwar Ali’s father died when he was very young, he had to work at a factory and all he could earn was 200 Rupees. Anwar got lucky when he was drafted into Zone VI’s under 19 team after he impressed the selectors with six deliveries he bowled at the trials. “They asked me to come for regular practice but, given the situation at home, I had to do double shifts at times. On hearing this, the coaches Azam Khan and Zafar Ahmed agreed to hand me a contract worth Rs 4,600 per month. From that day, I never looked back. Anwar Ali was taken to the National Cricket Academy in Lahore for further trials when he couldn’t even afford a proper pair of cricket shoes and was forced to play with Joggers and “chappals” until Aaqib Javed gave him a pair of shoes. After exceptional performances in zonal and regional levels, he was called in for the U19 squad for the World Cup in Sri Lanka. He silenced the doubts regarding him against New Zealands under 19 team by taking 5/34. In the intense Pakistan – India rivalry final of the world cup, he destroyed India by taking 5 wickets in the final and earned the man of the match. He took 40 and 38 wickets in the next 2 seasons and finally made his international debut in a T20 against Zimbabwe but remained wicketless and did not get to bat. He was then sent back to domestic cricket. He almost gave up on cricket thinking on how his career would only be that clip of him wrecking India’s U-19 team. But that clip was a motivation for him. He then came back stronger in 2013 after good domestic performances. He scored 43 in a low total and dismissed Jacques Kallis and AB de Villiers to earn the Man-of-the-Match on his ODI debut.
Anwar Ali is role model for not only Pakistanis but for everyone. He played when he didn’t even have proper shoes and a small salary and a family to feed. He never gave up when he had so many difficulties, so why should you give up?
