Marvi Sirmed- The other side

We are all aware of the recent incident of Marvi Sirmed being  insulted & humiliated on a “Political TV Show” –JUI-F leader Hafiz Hamdullah

She stated on her facebook account
“I’ve just undergone a very traumatic experience at a News One program (Nadia Mirza Show) when Hafiz Hamdullah of JUIF got angry on a comment by Barrister Masroor. When my turn came, I started my comment by saying “I agree with Masroor sahib to the extent that…” and here Hamdullah cut me and went on and on with his arrogance and rudeness. I responded in almost the same coin. And that’s when he started abusing me with worst possible expletives. Called me a whore and said “tumhaari shalwaar utaar doon ga aur tumhaari maan ki bhi”. I returned this to his own family women. And then he tried to beat me. All of this recorded in camera. Fayaz ul Hassan Chauhan held him so his punches don’t reach me. He had to be taken away by the News One security.

And this religious merchant was fasting while he did all this.”

Her tweets were:

Members of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) also condemned the incident. MNA and WPC Secretary Shaista Pervaiz, said: “The obnoxious behavior and language used by the Senator for a woman, was deplorable and absolutely unacceptable.” However, she stated that Barrister Masroor, another panelist in the program, should not have used derogatory remarks for CII chief Maulana Sherani. Farzana Bari, human rights activist and an academic on gender studies, dubbed the incident shocking and upsetting. Harris Khalique, writer and social activist, commented: “There is no analysis needed when a woman is insulted for being a woman. It is highly despicable. But I see a silver lining in this particular case. The bigots are intellectually bankrupt and have no arguments left. Their rage manifests as does their helplessness. The possibility of their extinction is making them nervous.” Members of Ending Violence Against Women and Girls Alliance condemned the incident. They also condemned the verbal abuse by Khwaja Asif against Shireen Mazari, saying such behavior was “unacceptable and cannot be tolerated”. They termed it a violation of Article 25 of the Constitution and also a disregard of CEDAW to which Pakistan is a party. All activists and lawmakers called for the removal of CII chairman and cancellation of membership of Senator Hafiz Humdullah and Minister Khawaja Asif.

We all condemn this behavior and insane act of the Mullah however we were only told about the behavior of the Mullah and not the whole story. In the video it was clearly seen both the parties being harsh and exchanging harsh language. I’m not saying that the reaction of Hafiz Hamdullah was justified however Marvi Sirmed also did not have a mature reply. If you think Marvi Sirmed is an activist with pure thoughts and positive thoughts check out some of her comments and think again.

We should think again because if Hafiz Hamdullah was wrong because of abusing, Marvi Sirmed has double Standards. There is a difference between freedom of speech and freedom to insult and whoever does that whether a man or woman it’s not bold, its simply wrong!
